Nipponanthemum, 'Montauk daisy'

Plant ID:

Nipponanthemum, nipponicum are commonly named 'Montauk daisies'.

Description:
'Montauk daisies are a hardy perennial native to the coastal regions of Japan. They grow 18 to 36 inches tall and wide, forming a bushy, mounded clump.

Attributes:
'Montauk daisies' are prized for late-season, showy blooms going nearly into early winter! They are highly adaptable to challenging conditions like sandy-rocky soil, and so naturally this species has become a garden favorite for coastal homes. Being highly drought, salt and disease resistant also lands them on our list of perennials to grow for you!

Where to Plant:
Full sun, in well draining soil with a neutral to slightly acidic PH-level. With sturdy, woody-based stems which shed their lower leaves during flowering, these are best placed near the middle or back borders of garden beds. It's also common to plant smaller perennials in front of 'Montauk daisies' in order to hide the bare stems. Consider planting in areas where color and interest is desired through late fall, when most perennials and surrounding foliage is down for the year.
