Veronica, 'seaside'

Veronica, 'seaside'
Plant ID:
Veronica, 'seaside' commonly known as Speedwell.

Description:
As hinted by its name, this variety of Veronica is well suited for coastal landscapes being both heat tolerant and resilient to salt. Growing to about 24" in height, Veronica, 'seaside' grows in round, bushy clumps of lance shaped leaves and is topped by spikes of purple stem flowers from mid-late summer.

Attributes:
An incredibly attractive plant to bumblebees! Other pollinators like butterflies and humming birds will thank you too!
The mid-late summer blooms provide continued purple color and upright form as autumn approaches.

Where to Plant:
Full sun to part-shade. Veronica, 'seaside' has a vigorous root system that is great for erosion control and strengthening loose soil. Because they are highly tolerant to salt, and as a perennial that naturally goes dormant for the winter, 'seaside' Veronica is a great choice for roadside areas too. This is not to say that 'seaside' is only for the coastal setting though. They make a great companion to wildflowers and many other perennials. Veronica can be mixed into beds and borders, or planted in repetition for coverage.
